2022 Washington Post Teacher of the Year
Lindsay Simone
Mechanicsville Elementary School is home to many amazing teachers, including Lindsay Simone, the 2022 SMCPS Washington Post Teacher of the Year. Mrs. Simone has been teaching in SMCPS for 13 years, with 12 of those years being at Mechanicsville.
Mrs. Simone truly encompasses the school mission by challenging, nurturing, and inspiring all of the students who enter her classroom. She has a natural ability to find exactly what her students need, and teach them in ways that allow and encourage every student to thrive. She plans engaging lessons and uses a variety of project based learning. Some of her students’ favorite activities include analyzing song lyrics for figurative language, creating timelines and paper-mache bottle projects based on a historic figure, and taking what they’ve learned about The Revolutionary War and writing a letter to a friend or family member as a colonist and explaining their position as either a loyalist or patriot during the revolution.
To her fellow teachers, Mrs. Simone is not just a colleague but a friend. She regularly collaborates with all grade level and content areas and she has a way of making everyone around her feel comfortable. Her positive attitude impacts the entire school community, and we couldn’t be happier to call her a Mustang!
