Fine Arts
At Mechanicsville Elementary School, we are proud to have a fine arts department that encourages the creative mind of a child. In our performing arts program, students have the ability to perform in the string orchestra, concert band, or Mustang Chorale (chorus). Although our student population is small, our performing ensembles are nothing short of robust! Bi-annual concerts showing student progress and growth as young musicians are highlights of the academic year, for students and community members alike.
Additionally, students engage with many other music-making opportunities throughout their years as a Mustang. We offer instruction in recorder and ukulele, in addition to a wide variety of activities in vocal and instrumental music. With educational technologies, students not only have the ability to learn about music, but take their skills to the next level and make music of their own using music creation software.
Our visual arts department encourages students to participate in the artistic process using many different media and techniques throughout their six years of study. Students in our visual arts classes learn about painting, mosaic, clay sculpting, weaving, and much more. Our students’ work is frequently recognized at the St. Mary’s County Fair and receives awards for its high quality.
Former President Barack Obama remarked, “the future belongs to young people with an education and the imagination to create.” We know that our Mechanicsville Mustangs will go on to do great things and lead the way into brighter tomorrows because of the arts education they have received today!
